How to Maintain the Benefits of Your Adjustment
Every week you come to Golden Family Chiropractic to get adjusted by Dr. Lauren Golden, and when you leave, you feel great. You notice your energy increasing, the pain you were feeling decrease, and you love the fact that you’re addressing your issues naturally.
But after a few days, the pain increases again, the energy wanes and you wonder, “Why don’t I feel great every day after I get adjusted?”
Never fear! There are some simple lifestyle changes you can make to ensure you get the most out of each adjustment.
1. Water, Water Everywhere!
When you get adjusted, your body releases toxins that have been storing up due to the tension and stress being relieved in your spine. When you drink water, the toxins are flushed from the body, so you get the most out of your adjustment, Water also helps keep the vertebrae in your spine lubricated, so it stays healthy and flexible. As soon as your adjustment is complete, start drinking that water! Keeping a travel cup filled with water can help you create a habit of keeping water with you at all times.
2. Quality Rest
If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “I should really have a better nighttime routine,” there is no better time to follow through on that thought than now. After you get adjusted, your spine is primed for health, and can stay that way if you are giving your body the proper rest it needs. Once you are able to focus on yourself at night (after the kids go down or the fur baby is walked and fed), find a way to wind down without a screen. This allows your brain to calm, allowing your nervous system to be less stimulated. Don’t eat or drink anything after 9 pm, and make sure you’re in bed at the same time every night. Having a firm mattress will also help your spine stay healthy after an adjustment, so if you were thinking of buying a new mattress, now is the time!
3. Sit Up Straight like Your Mama Taught You to!
Having correct posture can do wonders for maintaining the good feelings your body experiences after an adjustment. Sit up straight by using your core to support and lift your body through the rib cage and up towards the shoulders. Roll your shoulders back, but make sure your rib cage isn’t sticking out. When you roll your shoulders back, pull your belly button towards your spine to help you get an optimum position. Work on holding that position when sitting during the day, and when you’re walking, you’ll notice when your posture needs adjusting.
