Despite the complications of living in a state that refuses licensure to highly qualified, nationally recognized Certified Professional Midwives, there is indeed a robust home birth community in North Carolina. It is the legal right of any birthing family to choose where and with whom to give birth, and there is a community of midwives who believe in the autonomy of families and their right to their choice of care.
